Chief driving examiner launches official Facebook page

Driving instructors, trainers and other road safety professionals can now keep up to date with Great Britain's chief driving examiner on Facebook.

The Driving Standards Agency's Trevor Wedge has launched an official Facebook page - and he wants you to follow him and get involved.

Trevor says: "My Facebook page is a great way of helping fellow road safety professionals keep up-to- date with developments. It's just one of the many new ways that DSA is using to keep people informed."

He'll be updating the page with details of what he's working on, and who he's talking to around the country. From time to time he'll share other important news from DSA on the page.

You can post a comment on Trevor's Facebook wall. He's not always able to respond personally, but does read all of them. To take a look at Trevor's page and to start following him on Facebook HERE

As from 12th October 2010 Martin Owens has been added to the DSA management team as Area Manager for Scotland & Northern England. Martin will be based at the new Ayr Multi-Purpose Test Centre.
The Sector Structure in Scotland remains the same as before,
although there are some personnel changes:

Richard Ray is taking over Sector 1 (from Jim McCluskey)
Phil Robinson continues to manage Sector 2, Highlands & Islands & Tayside
Ronnie Simpson continues as Sector 3 manager, South Scotland.

The Department for Transport's Know your traffic signs booklet is now available on Directgov. You can go to an individual section for images and information on traffic signs, signals and road markings. Or, you can download the booklet in full, free of charge. To take a look, go to direct.gov.uk/trafficsigns.

Why know your traffic signs?
Traffic signs play a vital role in directing, informing and controlling road users' behaviour in an effort to make the roads as safe as possible for everyone. This makes a knowledge of traffic signs essential. Not just for new drivers or riders needing to pass their theory test, but for all road users, including experienced professional drivers.

Keeping up to date
We live in times of change. Society, technology and the economy all play their part in changing the way we travel. New road signs conveying new messages and in new formats are introduced from time to time, so drivers or riders who passed their driving test a few years ago need to keep up to date or run the risk of failing to understand or comply with recently introduced signs. Having experience is all very well, but it's not enough if your knowledge is out of date.
